In a significant expansion of its network, easyJet has inaugurated its longest-ever flight route, connecting London Gatwick Airport to Sal Island in Cape Verde.

The inaugural flight took off on March 31, 2025, marking the airline's first venture into sub-Saharan Africa. This new service offers travelers an affordable gateway to a destination often dubbed «Africa's answer to the Caribbean» due to its pristine beaches and year-round warm climate. This is reported by The Sun that is writing that EasyJet launches its longest ever flight to a winter sun island.
Affordable tropical getaway
EasyJet's new route to Sal Island opens up exciting opportunities for travelers seeking an affordable tropical getaway. With its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and array of activities, Cape Verde stands out as an attractive destination. However, it's essential for visitors to stay informed about health and safety advisories to ensure a pleasant and safe experience.
Flight details and schedule
The new route operates three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Flights depart London Gatwick at 10:00 AM, arriving at Amílcar Cabral International Airport in Sal at 2:10 PM. The return flights leave Sal at 3:05 PM, landing back in London at 10:55 PM. Each leg of the journey spans approximately six hours, covering a distance of about 2,700 miles (4,345 kilometers).
Travel options
EasyJet's entry into this market provides a cost-effective alternative for travelers. One-way fares start from £66, and package holidays, including return flights and accommodations, are available from £470 per person for a seven-night stay. This development introduces more competition, potentially leading to better deals for holidaymakers.

24°C in winter
Located off the west coast of Africa, Cape Verde comprises ten islands, with Sal and Boa Vista being the most popular among tourists. The islands boast a blend of African and Portuguese cultures, reflecting their history and diverse influences. Activities such as kite-surfing, scuba diving, and turtle watching are popular among visitors. The archipelago enjoys warm temperatures year-round, averaging around 24°C in winter and reaching up to 30°C in the summer months.
Health and safety considerations
Travelers should be aware of recent health advisories. Between 2022 and 2025, there have been reports of gastric illnesses, including infections caused by E. coli, salmonella, and shigella, affecting guests at several resorts in Cape Verde. Some travelers have pursued legal action against tour operators due to these incidents.
Additionally, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has noted that medical facilities in Cape Verde are limited. Travelers are advised to exercise caution with food and water consumption, maintain good hygiene practices, and ensure they have comprehensive travel insurance.
